It was a big day for our 10U and 12U teams that played in the Tom Kuyper spring League. Both teams took 1st place. The 10U team won a close game in the finals wrapping up an undefeated season at 8-0! These boys have come so far in such a short period of time and have a lot of potential. Our 12U white team played “up” in the 13U playoffs going against taller, bigger, and stronger kids. The playoff weekend started last night as they won by seven over The Eagles. Today was a day to remember for these boys as they beat Jump Athletic White 13U in the semifinals in a very exciting and emotional double over time game.

It was a very difficult game for me as I coached the 13U team and even though I was thrilled for our 12U boys I of course felt bad for our 13U team who lost a very tough game and played their hearts out. The 13U white team is a new group that has only played together for a short period of time. With some time and development they will be another Jump team that will win some championships.

The 12U white team after winning in double over time in the semi finals had to muster up even more energy to play the finals just two hours later against a tough Tom Kuyper team. After getting down early they fought back like they always do and won the finals by 8! This group of kids have so much heart and never quit and are a Jump Athletic team to keep an eye on. The Coaches for both the 10U and 12U teams have done a tremendous job with these boys! They truly care about these kids and the development of them on and off the court. We are looking forward to an exciting hot summer of hoop action.

Every one of our teams finished 1st or 2nd! Our teams continue to progress and develop thanks in part to our ongoing training academy and our amazing coaches. We are looking forward to another solid season in the spring league. Tryouts are happening now for next season as we put together teams for spring league.

Today was the final day of our 1st annual Thanksgiving Shootout and wow was it a great tourney! Featuring some of the top youth basketball teams in Arizona, from 11U to 14U teams, everyone came out for this one. There were a number of exciting games with the best game of the tournament taking place in the 11 U finals as the Magic Black beat the Runners on a buzzer beater! This game was back and forth all game and ended in dramatic fashion. The Arizona All Stars closed out a dominant tournament in the finals as they took home first in the 7th/8th grade boys division beating Arizona Gold. Team Bibby took home first place in the 12U 6th-grade bracket beating Arizona Future. In the 7th/8th grade girls bracket AA Dynasty beat Arizona Premier in the finals taking 1st place.

This year’s tournament took place at The Salvation Army Youth Center and family and friends of the players were treated to a great holiday weekend of hoops and turkey! We’re looking forward to the 2010 Jump Athletic tournament series which we’ll kick off with the annual MLK youth basketball tournament on Jan 16-18. Check out video highlights featuring a few of teams and games from the Thanksgiving Shootout here.
Turkey and hoops, what can be better?! We’ll be featuring the top teams in Arizona and surrounding states. The three-day tournament, which is sanctioned by USSSA basketball, will have six boys grade divisions; 3rd/4th/5th/6th/7th/8th and three girls divisions 7th/8th. We’re taking registrations for teams. But you’ll want to hurry because spots will fill up fast. Tournament will take place at Salvation Army in Phoenix. See you there people!

The 7th/8th great team won big on Friday night at US Airways Arena, beating the 1st place team from the east side. This is the same team that won at US Airways last season as a 5th/6th grade team. Moving up to another division and being one of the younger teams in the division with mostly 7th graders and winning like we did is very impressive for these kids. They had to over come some adversity during the regular season losing two games in a row but they were able to beat the teams they lost in the regular season in the playoffs, one of which was in the semi finals on an exciting buzzer beater shot to win the game! Jump Athletic has a tremendous core group of younger kids that we are looking forward to seeing develop on and off the court. Seeing these kids develop and mature is what makes my job so enjoyable.

It was an opportunity for me to get to know these kids more and for the team to bond as a unit which is crucial in team sports. Coming in 1st place is always nice. They lost focus in one of the games but were able to redeem themselves in the final against the team they lost to. Redemption is always solid in sports. The development of our teams is very important to Jump Athletic. Not the winning aspect but more so the development of these kids and preparing them for real life experience.
